Description

my-PV SOL•THOR – DC Power Manager for Photovoltaic Heat

Solar power directly converted into heat – without an inverter, without a grid connection.

The SOL•THOR is a 0–3,6 kW continuously controlled DC power manager for photovoltaic heat and can be flexibly used with a PV system of 1 to 10 PV modules – without any extra inverter.

Maximum efficiency through direct use

The direct current from the photovoltaic modules is transferred almost without loss directly to a connected heating element and thus efficiently converted into heat. This means: no detour via the power grid, no conversion losses – every watt of solar power generated goes directly into your hot water storage tank.

Self-sufficient operation – even in the event of a power outage

Thanks to its self-sufficient operation, the SOL•THOR requires no connection to the power grid, as the unit is entirely self-sufficient thanks to its PV generator. This also eliminates the need for grid feed-in, inverters, and connection permits. Another advantage: the SOL•THOR continues to function even during a power outage – ensuring your hot water supply remains uninterrupted.

Easy installation & retrofitting

The cables from the PV modules are simply connected directly to the SOL•THOR via MC4 connectors. The heating element in the thermal storage tank – whether new or already installed – is easily connected to the power manager. This allows existing heating elements in current thermal storage tanks to be controlled by the SOL•THOR – making the simple and economical retrofitting of an eco-friendly heating system a viable option.

Flexible and versatile

Two heating elements can be alternately controlled to optimally adjust heat generation (stratified charging). In addition to using the my-PV screw-in heating element, conventional electric boilers can also be controlled with the SOL•THOR – the stepless control makes them suitable for photovoltaic systems and achieves maximum heat output.

Hot water supply guaranteed even on cloudy days

Should the PV yield be insufficient in bad weather, the SOL•THOR can optionally switch to grid power, ensuring that hot water is available at all times.

Connected & intelligent

Operating data can be queried via LAN, WLAN, or RS485. The SOL•THOR can be integrated into the my-PV Cloud – this allows all user data to be accessed from anywhere, provided there is an internet connection.

Excellent design

In the category “Excellent Product Design – Building and Elements”, the SOL•THOR received the “Winner” award at the German Design Award 2025.

Do I need an inverter?

No. The SOL•THOR works directly with the direct current from your PV modules – an inverter is neither necessary nor useful, as the energy would otherwise be converted unnecessarily.

How many PV modules can I connect?

The SOL•THOR is scalable and can be operated with 1 to 10 PV modules. It adapts flexibly to your existing or planned system.

Can I continue using my existing heating element?

Yes. The SOL•THOR is compatible with existing heating elements in existing heat storage systems. Conventional electric boilers can also be easily controlled – making cost-effective retrofitting possible.

What happens on cloudy days or in the event of a power outage?

In case of insufficient solar yield, the SOL•THOR can optionally switch to grid power to ensure a reliable hot water supply. During a grid outage, the unit continues to operate independently using the PV modules.

Do I need approval from the network operator?

No. Since the SOL•THOR does not feed any electricity into the public grid, no approval from the grid operator is required.

Can I connect two heating elements?

Yes. The SOL•THOR supports two heating elements that are controlled alternately – ideal for stratified charging and even heat distribution in the storage tank.

Is the SOL•THOR also suitable for outdoor installation?

Yes. Thanks to its IP54 protection rating and an operating temperature range of -20 °C to +50 °C, the SOL•THOR can also be used outdoors.

How do I monitor the operation?

Control is possible via the integrated color touchscreen directly on the device or remotely via LAN, WLAN or RS485. Optionally, the SOL•THOR can be integrated into the my-PV Cloud for access from anywhere.

How complex is the installation?

Installation is straightforward: The PV cables are connected directly via MC4 connectors, and the heating element in the storage tank is connected to the device. Complicated piping is unnecessary – only power cables need to be laid.

What warranty applies to the SOL•THOR?

my-PV provides a 2-year manufacturer's warranty on the SOL•THOR.
